My Best Friend
No one else in my life
is as supportive as you
There's no one else I know
that I respect more
When everyone else would give up
you'd be there
When I thought days would always be dark
you brought me sunshine
You're the one I brag about
you're the one I idolize
If I could be half as good as you
I'd still be better than most
For years you stood by me
now it's my turn
Whatever you need, whenever you need it
I'll be there for you
Thanks for being my friend
when no one else would
My fan when no one cared
And most of all......
Thanks for being my Mom
My Mom is my best friend
She took me to my first concert. When I graduated from high school, I was planning on going to senior week at the beach with Peggy. Unfortunately, Peggy couldn't go, so Mom rearranged her vacation time and went with me so I wouldn't miss out. She bought me some wine and we had a great time. We even went to a strip club together once!
During my "troubled" broke ass years during my twenties, she baled me out time and time again, finally drilling into my head the right way to manage my money.
When John & I got married, she made sure my day was as special as can be.
When John & I bought our house, she came over and unpacked my kitchen, joking about my extensive collection of plastic bowls. She even cleaned out the oven that hadn't been cleaned in years and all three toilets.
When Steve & Vickie announced they were pregnant with Jake, we thought Mom was going to dance up and down 27 announcing to the world that she was finally going to be a grandmother. I'm sure everyone that came into Safeway were well aware she was going to be a grandmother!
When John & I found out we were pregnant with Nik, she was ecstatic. She started crocheting afghans like crazy. She wanted to make sure "her baby" was warm since our house is kept at sub-zero temperatures. She swore we were going to freeze her baby into a Popsicle.
She had a blast with both of her boys. She loved being a Mamaw.
She was a wonderful person whom everyone loved to be around. She was the life of the party, doing her little Appalachian two step whenever the music started.
Carol Burnette and Lucille Ball have always reminded me of my Mom. Especially when Carol Burnette did her "Momma" skits. There was one episode when Eunice & Momma were drinking beer. Momma ordered Eunice to get her a beer. Eunice looked at her and said, "would Mommy dear like a beer?" That saying stayed with us for quite awhile!
My Mom has touched many lives and will be sorely missed be all. I promise everyone I will be working on perfecting the peanut butter candy.
I can sum up how mine & Mom's relationship with a saying from a tapestry pillow she gave me a few years ago:
"A daughter is just a little girl who grows up to be a friend"
And she was
