Happy Birthday!

Today is my birthday! I have always been a big fan of birthdays. Not just mine but those close to me as well. I feel that it is the one day that is entirely yours and that you should do everything in your power to make it excellent. It should be an entire "me day". Take yourself to lunch, to the movies, to dinner - whatever you want to do. It's the day as a kid that you got breakfast in bed, got to pick what to have for dinner and had your favorite cake made. I try to continue this tradition with everyone I know. I'm like a big kid on everyone's birthday and love to do something to just surprise the hell out of them.

This morning when I woke up, for the first time ever, I was like "Yippee yeah it's my birthday (in a sarcastic voice). Big fucking deal". I listened to the radio on the way to work and was truly in a glum mood. Couldn't tell you why. Part of it is that I'm truly pissed off at my age. How in the hell I became 42 I don't have a clue. I don't feel it, I don't look it and I certainly don't act it. Unless I actually sit down and do the math I don't truly realize it either. But yes boys & girls, 2006 minus 1964 is fucking 42. It has just snuck up on me and bit me on the ass REAL HARD.

However, when I got into work, the girls at the front desk said "Happy Birthday" to me. I'm thinking "OK, how did they know it was my birthday?" So I graciously said thank you and turned to go to my desk. My desk has a window that looks out into the Reception area. Well, usually it does. Today it had a big blob of happy birthday paper hanging on it and balloons. On my desk was hundreds & hundreds of pieces of colored paper stringed confetti. All over my desk, my computer, my typewriter and on the floor around my chair. Intermingled with the confetti was life savers and Hershey's kisses. Balloons were tied to my chair and loose ones tossed around my desk area. I had flowers (a dozen multi-colored roses) from my sweetie. People came in all day and wished me happy birthday. At lunchtime I went and had a pedicure and then met my boss at the local hangout for lunch & drinks. When I came back I had the most beautiful flower arrangement from my bestie and had calls from my bestie and my oldest bestie. Tonight we are all going out for dinner.

Now, at the end of the day I am just giddy with happiness I truly need to be slapped! I feel like I am 10 again and am obnoxious with the thrill that it is "MY DAY"! What a great feeling to have! Tomorrow night I get to go out with my bestie to happy hour (well, happy night more than likely!) and sing bad Karioke! The day after that I leave for the beach for a week.

Not a bad birthday after all! What wonderful people I have in my life. For that I am truly, truly thankful.

Yeah Me!
